We had a great run with our Autumn Delight Design Challenge
The results are in and Melanie of Mel's Clay won by a land slide! Congratulations. Please take a moment to read the fabulous feature all about Melanie.
Tell us a little about yourself and your designs.
My name is Melanie. I am a mom of a teenage boy and the wife of a Marine. I feel like my designs are fun, maybe a little whimsical. I love to use color and I am starting to work with texture more lately. I love to do individual items, ones that capture the personality of the new owner.
How long have you been designing?
I have been working in clay for over 10 years
Where did the idea for your designs originate?
It is hard to say. I keep little books everywhere and when I get an idea I write them down. Sometimes I will see color combinations, or certain textures and I want to see if I can incorporate them. Needless to say, my books are more full than my
online store or my show table.
What makes your items different from others?
I feel like my craft is not one that many people venture into. I have never been to a show and seen things like mine. I think it might intimidate some people, they are not sure how to learn to do it. It isn't a craft passed down from parents and there aren't too many places to learn. The items take a while to make, so a passion for doing it is a must.
Do you offer custom orders?
Yes, I love to do custom orders, nothing is out of bounds for me
Are you featured anywhere locally?
I teach clay classes at JoAnn's on Polaris and am looking into other venues to teach. I will be in the North Market Holiday show Dec 4-5 and the Wild Goose White Elephant show on Nov 28.
